Midwifery Care with Kawartha Community Midwives
- We are five registered midwives who attend births either at home or at the
Peterborough Regional Health Centre. (We will attend home births that are
within a 45 minute drive from Peterborough.)
- We invite you to come to an initial interview with one
of us to find out more about midwifery care and to help you
decide if it is the kind of care you are seeking.
- If you decide to use our services, your care will be
provided by at least two midwives. During each visit you
will spend about 45 minutes with one of us. This will allow
time for you to discuss your questions, birth plans, and
concerns with us; and to build a caring relationship based
on trust and mutual respect.
- Midwives involved in your care will be available to
you by pager 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
- We are a teaching practice. Midwifery students from
Ryerson, McMaster, and Laurentian will have their clinical
placements with us, and will be involved in the care of
most of our clients.
- We are sensitive to and respectful of cultural, social
and spiritual practices and traditions.
- Books, audio tapes and videos are available on loan to
our clients.
